Hiking the Y

This is an entertaining story…hopefully the kids remember it.  On Saturday we decided to hike the Y at Becca’s suggestion.  We were all a little slow getting out of here, as we tend to stay up late around here, and we finally got up to the trail about 12:45 pm.  The happy hikers.DSC_0008There aren’t any signs to point the way and we’re all thinking this isn’t the greatest trail ever, but we keep plugging along. Twenty minutes later we discover this great cell-phone tower.  Huh??  Looking out across the hills we discover the upper parking lot where the real trail to the Y starts.  So we turn around all laughing and as we get back to the bottom there is another couple coming along another trail asking if the Y is up where we were.  We tell them no and both head up to the real trail.  So silly.DSC_0018So here we are finally at the real hiking destination about 1:20.  Now we’ve already hiked for half an hour and it is blazing hot out.  My mom and the little kids make it another 10 minutes or so then decide to go back.  Mom was great – they picked up trash at the bottom, looked at rocks and bugs and sat in the shade while they waited for the rest of us.

Mark and my Dad were zooming up the trail.  They stopped and waited for the rest of us (including Ken) here at turn three.  This is where we decided that we’d rather live to tell our funny story than die in the heat so all the girls got a picture and then we started back down the trail.

DSC_0023They made it to the top and from the parking lot we could see Mark’s red shirt. We all gave them a them a great cheer with our loudest voices, but they couldn’t hear us.DSC_0025 DSC_0043 So that’s our second hike for week.  That night Laura cut and highlighted hair my sister’s hair and cut mine too.  She had some left over highlight paste and Jessie was the joyful recipient of that.  Although Jessie has so many natural highlights, that you can’t really see them too much unless you know they’re there, but that’s the point right – you want it to look natural.DSC_0044

That was not a fun hike but I am glad I had good company while we were on that hike to what felt like our deaths! I too am grateful to Mom for entertaining Conrad and your kids.
