October Begins….

More lunch fun.  Cookie cutter are so fun.  Sandwiches and biscuits are just better if a cookie cutter has attacked them.2014-09-29 13.12.46

Isaac loves helping in the garden.  Here’s the tomato he picked for me.  I love that he brought up one tomato in a bucket.  We went back to look for more.2014-09-30 17.20.59

Jessie came home from her first debate tournament with a big smile. Tied for third place on her oratory about creating a lasting legacy.  She talked about the importance of learning about your family and keeping a journal.  She talked about one of our ancestors who grew up in the Mexico colony.Check out my awesome daughter @twirledturtle - Tied for third place at her first debate competition! Did a great job on her oratory. So proud of her!

At one of Spencer's soccer games Mark was reading to Neil and a couple of other kids listened in too.2014-10-02 18.00.07

While Abbie did a great job entertaining Isaac….although I’m not quite certain how she squeezed herself under that chair.2014-10-02 18.02.23

Abbie’s birthday poster got strung across her bed, with enough room to squeeze out underneath it so the poster wouldn’t get ripped.  2014-10-04 09.01.36

Her first present -  a bunji chair, like the one Rachel has at her apartment, had been hid at Ken’s work for quite some time and instead of wrapping it she covered her eyes while we all sang Happy Birthday.  Mom, Rachel and Becca were joining us for General Conference and this was the perfect thing to watch the sessions in.DSC_4641

Before the first session we had some creative kids build us some “cup temples.”  Here is Spencer’s and Isaac’s and Neil was so proud he made his all on his own.  Also right now he LOVES wearing dad’s shirts to bed even though he has plenty of pj’s of his own.0

Neil's temple

For Abbie’s party we had soup and breadsticks even though the day turned out to be fairly warm.  Starred Photos202

She choose lemon meringue pie for her cake and that was my first time making it….that I can remember.  It looked a little flat on top, but it tasted really yummy.  Presents and a birthday rap from Randy made the day special.Starred Photos203

That night she was determined to sleep in her bunji chair…..my body would have been screaming at me the whole night…but somehow she managed.  She did say that it was a lot colder in the chair than she thought it was going to be.DSC_4667

Emma and Grandma watching conference.DSC_4670

“If you’re happy and you know it” is one of our favorite songs.  This is Isaac’s “then your face will surely show it.”  Makes me laugh every time.2014-10-05 20.08.33

A Sunday evening game of Settlers.  Jessie and Mark teamed up to not let Ken win.DSC_4673

Mark is taking care of our neighbor’s lawn since they have moved out and haven’t sold it yet.  It was a sweet day when Isaac went over with the toy mower to help him.

A cute burrito baby.  I love rocking Emma to sleep.  And whoever thought of glow in the dark binkies was a genius!!2014-10-07 15.45.16

For Reflections this year the theme was “making the world a better place.”  Abbie thought that strong families would make the world a better place so we built a family pyramid for her out on the front lawn…wow that was some skills at work to get little people on the top.  Emma was utterly confused at what was going on and decided that playing with Jessie hair was a good way to pass the time.Starred Photos204

Rachel invited us up to have lunch with her at the MTC West.  The boys were in heaven and we got one of my all time favorite pictures before we left.2014-10-08 13.32.09

Quinn and his Grandma joined us at the Corn Maze place this year.  Isaac especially loved sticking he head in the animal cut outs and Neil loved looking at the pigs and goats in the cages.  The hay mazes they had for the kids were really fun.  The boys all ran off and hid in this dead end and waited there giggling for us to find them.Starred Photos205

The shorter hay maze was really confusing to Neil and finally he just climbed on top of the hay to get out.  We played in the corn pit until it was time to go.  All Emma wanted to do with the corn was eat it, but Neil and Quinn decided they could be alligators swimming though it.  And trying to get a picture of four small people is not easy….Starred Photos206

Abbie tried sleeping in her bunji chair again the next weekend….but part way through the night decided to just get back in bed where it was warm and comfortable.2014-10-10 23.48.06

We went up to Lisa’s parents to celebrate her birthday.  Carol even brought Grandma down to celebrate with us.Starred Photos207

When my hair started to grow back in after having Emma it was all jagged with tons of split ends so I decided to go really short.  Shortest cut yet.  It was quite liberating to cut off my hair, but I’ve since decided I like it a little longer…right past my shoulder’s is where I think it will end up.  While we were there Abbie decided to cut hers too.  Starred Photos208

Ken and Mark went to cut wood this year with our neighbor in the Manti National Forest.  Mark loves this because he gets a day out of school and gets to be with dad.  On the way there they had a bit of a traffic problem.it is on the way to Manti National Forest. We were going to cut wood.

Mark actually got a few potatoes from his plant this year.  He and Jessie’s favorite afterschool snack right now is a fried baked potato so he fried up his potatoes too for a before bed snack.  He was a bit disappointed that they tasted just like the store potatoes.Starred Photos209

Reading with Grandma.  Not sure why I wasn’t good at taking pictures when my mom was out to visit after taking care of Grandma Woodward in SLC.DSC_4744

Jessie decided to scramble her eggs in the pan and got this fun smile when she poured the milk in.DSC_4746

Emma loves to be with the kids when they play the piano.  And Waterfall by Jon Schmidt is her favorite song!  She loves to direct the music whenever she hears some playing.DSC_4748

We made some blueberry yogurt pops with some “expired” yogurt from Rachel's work.  The boys loved them.  (And yes we did eventually take down the poster from helping the Activity Day girls learn to lead music.)2014-10-12 16.29.54

Sweet brother moment.  Ken took this shot. “Brothers. It's not the greatest quality shot, but I didn't want them to see me and spoil the moment.”   And Neil adores the blue dinosaur pants my mom made for him.2014-10-13 11.32.05-1

Isaac loves for me to make him cars from the Magformers.2014-10-13 10.01.25

I revamped our Afterschool Chore Lists to include not only putting way your school stuff when you got home, homework and preassigned chores but also a random act of kindness and it has been a really fun thing.   Everyone at my house appreciated Abbie’s RAK this day.Everyone at my house will love Abbie's random act of kindness for the day.

September part two

We decided to have dinner in the backyard for some Friday night fun.  I had made Salsa Verde Chicken (you can get the recipe from this site: http://www.kevinandamanda.com/recipes/dinner/salsa-verde-chicken.html)

It’s so delicious.  Of courses I had to tweak the recipe a bit to get it to serve 8 of us and I cooked it in the oven in a 9x13.  Anywho, the evening was beautiful and the apple tree gave us the perfect amount of shade.

2014-09-19 18.32.50

Jessie’s been teaching herself to use the pen tool in Photoshop and cranking out a bunch of fun logos for her graphic design class.  Here’s one of them in progress.

Horse with Pen Tool (1)

Jessie and I signed up to sell cards and quilled jewelry at a city festival.  Here’s my display all set up.  Unfortunately the day was a near flop as I think most people who came didn’t realize there was stuff to buy besides the free crafts for the kids.  Not only that our booth was directly in the sun where no one wanted to be standing.  We’ll chalk that day up to a good learning experience.2014-09-20 01.04.14

Abbie joined Jessie and I for the morning festival.  Part way through she ran off to make one of the crafts and came back with this adorable rhino.2014-09-20 13.46.52

Another fun friend day.  The older boys convinced Isaac to be their horse and pull them around.  He actually didn’t do a half bad job as I was expecting him to not even be able to budge them.2014-08-21 10.27.32

Ella and her parents came over for a visit.  Everyone wanted to hold her.0

We went to Mark’s court of honor where he got his patch the the 50 miler he hiked.DSC_4475

Then we came back home for a hymn-a-long.  Fun night!DSC_4480

The night finished off with a wrestling match involving a baby diaper, but I can’t remember much more than that.2014-09-21 22.09.48

The little kids and I went shopping for Spencer’s birthday presents.  Spencer didn’t want anything specific, he said he just wanted a lot of presents.  More on that in a minute.  So we were at Toys R Us and they had these sprinklers/water toys on clearance for $6, but then when we were checking out it rang up for $1.25!! I almost ran back and got a few more for the gift box, but then decided to let others enjoy the surprise too.  It was 77 degrees out, but definitely not warm enough to get wet and the water was freezing, but we just had to try it out.Starred Photos200

When Ken got home we loaded everyone in the van and headed up to Whiting Campground to number 22 for our annual Brian hotdog roast.  Ahhh….good times.Starred Photos201

Neil and Isaac were my super pancake mix stirrers….and we didn’t spill too much on the floor either.DSC_4506

For Spencer’s birthday they decorated his desk at school. DSC_4507

Then we had Mark’s soccer game.DSC_4514

Then time for presents.DSC_4524

DSC_4541

A soccer ball, fun bright orange soccer socks, swimming goggles and a new remote control car made the evening a good one.

Isaac finally fell asleep on the couch that night around midnight….2014-09-24 00.40.07

Jessie hung this up on the stair way long before I got around to taking a picture of it.2014-09-23 09.46.13

And in a way it is quite comical because I think Jessie was the worst at getting her job charts done, so it’s not like she had an excess to share.  I don’t think she ever got enough herself to actually get something from the prize box.  Abbie was the only one sweet enough to feel sorry for Jessie and she got a loan to get something from the chore box early just so Jessie could get a few extra chore charts.

After two years we finally got a cup of raspberries off our plants from Uncle Frank. 2014-09-24 18.15.56

Here we are at one of Spencer’s games.  Neil had a blast playing peek-a-boo with Emma; she was laughing so hard and was SO excited when he started waving the blanket around to put over her or himself.DSC_4554

Spencer loves doing crazy things with his hair when it’s all sweaty.DSC_4562

DSC_4583

Isaac was a little bored with the soccer game and so we entertained him taking some selfies together.2014-09-25 19.09.38

Oh glorious nap time….only today it took two hours of playing in bed before he finally climbed up onto Spencer’s bed a fell asleep….so funny!2014-09-26 15.30.48

David and Lisa down for some games.  Neil and Lisa were the winning team for our game of A to Z.

At Grandma’s house Jessie braided Abbie and Megan’s hair together.2014-09-27 20.56.36

My mom came out to stay with/help my Grandma Woodward for a couple weeks after she fell and broke her arm.  We took some fruit pizza treats up to share when we went for a visit.2014-09-28 19.15.44

Thanks for tuning in! See you again soon!
