Beginning of Summer vacation

The last day of school was an adventure.  Jessie and a friend decided to bike.  In a car Jessie’s school is about 4 minutes from our house, so after lunch we went out to wait for them to get home.  Soon 20 minutes had passed and then 30….mom was starting to get worried.  Then just before the bus dropped off the elementary kids she showed up.  It turns out her bike tire went flat during school and so she and her friend just walked the bikes home.  Fine and dandy, I just wished she called to let me know!  Then only Mark shows up walking from the bus stop….Spencer and Abbie had missed the bus home on the last day!  CRAZINESS!2013_05_24IMG_1720

That night the boys packed and left for the Fathers and Sons camp out and the girls and I took a walk then got the summer started off right by doing something from our summer bucket list – making confetti bowls.DSC_0134

At the Fathers and Sons Neil was so excited to sleep in the tent.  He really wanted to sleep on the cot with daddy, but they decided they both wouldn’t fit very well.2013-05-24 20.10.09

It was chilly the next morning, but since the turn out wasn’t great they ate until they popped.2013-05-25 07.00.09

2013-05-25 08.02.11After breakfast they got to do some shooting. (Spencer was there too, but somehow he escaped with out even one picture.)  Neil was so excited to have his own ear plugs – lucky him ;-)Starred Photos158

That weekend was also the YW Camp fundraiser dinner.  Hawaiian Haystacks all around.  They did a great job.  They also had a silent service auction and Jessie’s loaves of homemade bread went for a high price.  We won a play/skit and a crochet lessons to make cute owl hats for babies.DSC_0135

Memorial Day BBQ with Ken’s family.  YUM! plus FHE to boot.  For activity we played the “Thimble Game”  which I guess Ken’s family made up sometime ago…I had never played it, but it was a hit with the kids.  All you need is a thimble and a cup of water.  The “it” person is in the middle of the circle of participants with the thimble full of water.  He thinks of a category – let’s say colors, and then picks  a color which he doesn’t tell anyone.  Then you go around the circle trying (or not trying) to guess the thing they are thinking of.  You know if you got it right because about 7 drops of water come flying your way and you are the new “it.”  Don’t forget to refill the thimble.  We had all sort of categories like fruits, prophets, breakfast cereals….2013_05_27

DSC_0008The kids got up before me and made toast for breakfast.  They showed me the cute pictures they got of Neil sharing with Isaac.DSC_0010Isaac is learning to cheese for the camera.DSC_0021

For Jessie’s birthday we surprised her with her very own roll top desk.  She had made herself a make shift hide-out desk area in her closet with an old rolly cart….time to move up in the world.  She was ecstatic!DSC_0027

I love this picture.  The left bump is Neil’s head, and the right bump is Spencer’s and they are reading books together under the blanket.DSC_0028

For Jessie’s party we had taco salad and she wanted Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert.  2013_06_01

Afterwards we played Hobbes Ball in the backyard….and the girls finally won!!!DSC_0049

Another sweet sharing picture.DSC_0051Grandma also “needed” Neil’s candle blowing skills at her birthday celebration.  (And Jessie made that face on purpose, so I didn’t try and cut her out :-).)DSC_0055

You are going to love the next picture.  Jessie and Mark had decided to sleep down in the guest bedroom and Ken and I were up here doing something on the computer together and we heard this noise like a kid crying.  Well it was some neighbor cats yelling at each other in our driveway.  We laughed about it and then heard some some feet coming up the stairs.  Jessie and Mark had heard the bawling and came to find out what it was (and stay up later because who really wants to ever go to bed in the summer?) Just as they  got to the top of the stairs the cats started up again and here are Jessie and Mark’s reaction… priceless!DSC_0059

After some convincing they returned to the designated sleeping spot…but I doubt they went to sleep.

The kids’ new favorite game this summer is Zoo Tycoon.  Jessie got it for her birthday or Christmas last year, and they hadn’t really played on it much…until now.IMG_3011

Spencer loves to come in all sweaty from outside and show me how much he can spike his hair.DSC_0060

Jessie and some friends went to the city’s “Art City Days” to ride some rides, but after buying tickets and standing in line the rides closed before they even got to ride one ride!  Jessie had a great attitude about “losing” five bucks of her birthday money and said she really just went to be with her friends anyway.  Ahhh…life.  (Ken went with them to be the fun chaperon.)2013-06-05 21.38.43-2
