Happy Birthday to me, again!!! For my birthday Ken’s mom gave me a gift certificate for a wall hanging for my dining room. I found four different flag ideas and decided on this one and I LOVE IT! Ramona does such amazing work. Thank you!
Emma learned to pull herself up.
Here’s a better picture of my haircut. It took a while for me to get used to seeing myself with short hair.
Jessie glass etched this fun bowl in Young Women’s.
A little face painting fun with Neil. After Jessie was done he ran up to the bathroom to stand on a stool and see himself in the mirror. Then he started making all these funny noises while he watched the dinosaurs mouth move with his. It was great.

My dad flew out to drive my mom back home after she had been taking care of Grandma Woodward in SLC. We had a family BBQ while they were out. Rachel brought down her fancy pomegranate juice that my kids had helped her with the peeling and juicing of and she made lemonade with it. Abbie helped finish of the last hints of drink in the punch bowl. :-)
Friday morning Rachel played Slamwich with Neil and Spencer while Abbie and Grandpa made us some Cranberry Scones for breakfast.
Then we headed up the canyon for a hike…but we had to change our plans after not finding the trail and having a bit of a time crunch with getting my parents headed home. So we hiked another little trail part way and then headed home. On the way up we had another road jam, this one was cattle instead of sheep.
After hiking and before Rachel had to head home we squeezed in a game of Settlers.
We’ve been helping Abbie with her new birthday puzzle the last couple of days. So fun!
That evening last minute we headed over to the corn maze with the whole family and Becca. They even had a little kangaroo in with the turkeys! Even the little boys made it to the top of the hay bale mountain (but their mom was a bit nervous and followed them every step of the way).
After the corn maze I played around with the camera trying to get some good fall shots with all the fun pumpkins around. The kids played around with the camera and got a bunch of silly shots on the way home.
Saturday was another intense day. Rachel joined Ken and I at Spanish Fork’s farmers market where we got four bushels pears to can. These were no where near the quality of the pears we have gotten in years past from the church farms in Oregon, but we were out of pears so we had to do something. Rachel also got some fun pastries that she shared with us.
Then we set about tearing out the flower beds in the front yard. This is always the hardest thing to do since it was still warm and the flowers were still growing. So we bottled up the pretty flowers and shared them with some of our neighbors – that was fun too.
Mark loves it when the little boys let him read to them.
Our 3 a.m. surprise on Sunday morning was a call to Ken’s phone that our friend’s baby was on the way. Still 6 to 7 weeks early. Her husband and son had come to spend the night at the hospital and it turned out to be a traumatic one. Ken ran up to the hospital bring their son to our house. He was not happy about that at all! And I slept (kind of) with him in Neil’s bed until morning. Baby Lila had a few scary days and weeks ahead of her but she pulled through and although she is still on oxygen she is a beautiful happy girl.
On Monday while the kids were at school the boys, Quinn and Emma and I went to the new Bean Museum. That was slightly crazy….really crazy, but I think everyone had fun and no one got lost.
Mark obviously got a little bored during his horn practicing….because I found a ton of silly pictures of him on the computer.
For one of Jessie’s English projects she had to learn a new skill and do a report. She decided to finally really learn how to juggle with the juggling kit she got from Mark last Christmas. It was fun watching her practice facing a wall so she wouldn’t throw the balls outward. She did a great job and even got up the courage to juggle in front of her class.
Happy Birthday to Becca. She came down after work on a Monday and we rounded up a waffle cookie (FHE treat from Mark) with a candle for her to blow out. Fun times.
Isaac helped me make some bread to surprise Ken. Someday we’ll get back into the habit of homemade bread….but it’ll probably still be a few years. But that does make it a special treat!
Emma learns to crawl. Emma has been my most stationary baby. She learned to hold herself in a sitting position when she was six months old, but she still couldn’t roll over or sit herself up. At eight months she learned to roll over then at ten months she learned to pull herself up on the furniture and a week later she learned to crawl. This very sudden mobility really caught us off guard as far as baby proofing went but was a lot of fun.
