The Friday before school started David and I took the kids for a hike up to Stewart’s Cascades, just past Sundance, on recommendation from my neighbor. It was great! But you’ll want to remember your water. The first part of the hike reminded me of hiking in Washington with Ken’s grandpa. Then you have some beautiful open areas where you can look around at the mountain tops. David and I took turns sharing a hat since I don’t really have one that fits. Little Neil slept the whole way there.
The trail down out of the mountains to the falls was quite steep and not marked very well, but we made it to the bottom. I really want to take Ken back to see it.
Here’s looking down the river and then a good shot of the whole waterfall.
I found a somewhat flat rock to sit on while I fed Neil, and David broke out the yummy trail mix he had mixed up for us: M&M’s, peanuts, cashews, craisins, Cheez-its, and dried pineapple. The kids all wanted to take a picture of the water. Here’s a picture Abbie got of Spencer balancing on a log that stretched across the water, which was surprisingly cold for the end of August, and would have been fun and refreshing to play in had we been prepared for that.
Here are some pictures from the hike back which didn’t seem to take as long even though we had to go back uphill. I always love hiking back because since you are seeing the trail from a different view it’s almost like your hiking a new trail and that just seems so cool to me.
At one water break we determined that I am NOT a good frowner, but David is….hee-hee-hee.

You always take so many perfect shots! It sounds like you all had so much fun! I wish Missouri had fun places like that to hike to, perhaps it does I am not the interested in hiking without you!
Spencer look so happy on that log, cutie! You trail mix sounds yummy, might have to use that mix next time we go out.
David does have a VERY frownie face! In that group of pictures is the picture of you and Neil, you look so pretty!
